Spellexi is a spelling practice app that goes beyond a spelling test: personalized, right-time review is built into every session. When a child misses a word, Spellexi schedules it to come back (three days later, then a week, then longer) until the word is locked in. That repeated retrieval is what reading science says actually moves spelling from short-term memory to permanent skill. Built by Cassandra Jens, a software engineer and homeschool parent of three, Spellexi was born from her experience supporting a differently wired learner. When the spelling instruction she'd carefully chosen still wasn't sticking, she set out to build the feedback loop she needed. Parents photograph the handwritten practice; Spellexi grades it, tracks which words are mastered and which are still slipping, and decides what to bring back next. The instructional approach is guided by literacy specialist Colleen Doyle. Spellexi is in private beta with Founding Families. It's built for iOS, with information at spellexi.com.
